Default Basjoo leaves tips turn dry and brown

I have my basjoos in the ground. lately i am noticing the leave tips turn dry and brown. also noticed something chewing on them (holes).

I appreciate your input and advise as I would not like to loose (sp) them.
They otherwise, look very healthy. I live in N.C. zone 8A and lately we have been having a drought, if it rains it is very little. I do give them deep waterings.
I have fed them potassium in addition to 10-10-10. About a cup for each.

thank you for your advise.

The holes are from an insect such as grasshopper or moth larvae. The tip burn is apparently not from lack of water. Check the pH of your soil.

I had a localized infestation of little, grey - brown beetles this year. They only got on a few plants, but put tiny, jagged, holes all around. They're about as big around as a pencil, and the holes are just about that size as well.
Zoom in on this pic (click on it , then click on it again) to see the holes. The problem was only in this bed and only lasted a short while (There are probably eggs all over these plants).
