Bananas you gave up on
I have bananas that do really good and then I have some that never do that well and eventually die or I chop up to make room.
What do you have trouble with and will not grow anymore? What I will not grow Dcd Siam ruby Zimbrena Bassjoo, I am giving it one last chance this year. Orinoco does the best for me |
Re: Bananas you gave up on

Why are you having trouble with basjoo. |
Re: Bananas you gave up on
I'm about to throw in the towel on Ensete Maurelii....mine has always been very fastidious and never looked very nice despite equivalent care to other plants that do very well. They're so beautiful when I see pictures of other people's....but if this one dies, I'm done with them for a long long time...maybe forever.
Siam Ruby is not doing so hot right now either, but I'd give that one another chance. |

Re: Bananas you gave up on
I've given up on basjoo as well. I had the same experience as Gadget. They did fine in the winter, but terrible in the summer. Might have something to do with the dry, 110 degree F wind during the summer...
I grew basjoo in zone 6 and it did great! |
Re: Bananas you gave up on
I'm with greg .. Whatever survives.. especially since we got down to 21F.. with plenty of cold to go.

Re: Bananas you gave up on
Bryan, my experience with Maurelii is that individual plants behave very differently.....don't be too afraid to toss the underperforming one and try a new plant when you can.

Re: Bananas you gave up on
LOL...yeah, I kinda wanna toss it right now, but I feel terrible just throwing out a plant that's still alive (even if it looks like total crap and appeared to have made reservations for the 'afterlife'). I'm gonna see if it survives this winter and if so, give it a shot during the summer. It did much better in the summer than it has since I've moved it inside.

Re: Bananas you gave up on
A banana might look like crap these days based on the weather. If you have a decent rootball you can cold store it instead of letting it rott or freeze to death.

Re: Bananas you gave up on
If your siam ruby is looking bad, try putting it in a location with more heat. Especially bottom heat like a heat mat. It will perk right up. They like their roots warm. Wouldn't hurt your ensete either.
