bananas roots reaction to rain
 

We have had a ton of rain here in the last few months - 13.5 inches in October and 19.1 inches in November - and in spite if the depressions around the bananas being waterlogged, they have put out roots into the drainage gully next to the path - can't get enough of that lovely rain obviously!!!!

I think most plants don't mind alot of water as long as the temps are high,
and bananas enjoy it and so do palms.
When the temps get low its not good standing in the water for a long time,
thats why we need extreme drainage in our regions for our tropicals and most
of them only survive when kept dry in winter.

Yes Ron - I knew that bananas liked water and warm temperatures - but I was surprised to see their roots going into the gully - as if they didn't have enough water around them. Mind you it is very cold here now - 25c/75f and the dogs refuse to go into the pool and cuddle on their beds. Another big storm on the way with high winds and rain - another wet week in paradise!!!
