Re: Bananas.org Members Yard Photos
Fishman...wow, that looks just great. How did you do the stone walkways? Something I think I'd like to add from the deck to the horseshoe pit!
To everyone that asked....let me know when you're in town. Any reason for a beer is OK with me! |

Re: Bananas.org Members Yard Photos
THANKYOU, Salty dad and nucci60! my wife says they're King Humbert cannas, I remember the tags saying as such, but I found others that look very similar to them as well. My wife walks around calling them tropicana cannas but I think that's what some people just call all cannas...RIGHT? I actually have one of another type that standing alone between two bananas. My wife says that's also a king humbert, just a different color variety- which would lead me to believe FLOWER color. BUT the leaves are just green while all the others are wonderfully striped in yellow. I don't know.

Re: Bananas.org Members Yard Photos
The walkways were actually made using a mold I bought. I found it at Home Depot. It's made by a concrete company ....Quickrete I think. I bought it YEARS ago knowing someday....

Re: Bananas.org Members Yard Photos
Fishman- Here is a pic of Yellow King Humbert that has naturalized from 6 bulbs to over 50 in 4 years. The leaves are green with a faint lining if you look close. The flower is actually yellow and orange. I understand the Red King Humbert has bicolored leaves.
I also have a Phaison, also called Tropicanna. It has gorgeously striped leaves and an electric orange flower. Yours actually look more like Tropicana to me. The Humberts have a distinct yellow border around the orange.

While looking yesterday I stumbled upon pictures of Bengal Tiger cannas and thought they looked just like mine as well. Now I'm going to ask my wife if maybe the tags on the plants (if that was correct) said Tropicana Gold, which was the plant first mentioned by Nucci60. I started reading up on canna care right after my wife brought them home. Overall I guess It doesn't matter what type I've actually got as long as I take care of them. BUT it is nice to know when people ask me. However I guess it wouldn't be hard for someone to find some that look at least pretty darn close. If not exactly them, Bengals sure are close!

Re: Bananas.org Members Yard Photos
Here's a few recent pictures of my yard. I'm a little disappointed in the growth rate of most things this year. It's been a dry one for the most part.
Musa 'Thai Gold' is the taller banana, M. mannii is in the foreground. Musa laterita is on the left, M. 'Dw. Cavendish' on the right. My new bed with M. 'Hua Moa', 'Ice 'Cream', and 'Cal. Gold'- you can see my 'Dw. Red' in the background at the corner of the house and my 'Orinoco' is the tall plant on the right in the background. |

Re: Bananas.org Members Yard Photos
Buddy- Love the nanas. The palms, bromeliad, mandevilla, etc. all look great together. Your doing a great job for a first or a twenty-first gardener!
