Default Bananas in New Jersey?
I have Carolina King plants for the last 3 years. I bring them in for the winter and have never expected fruit. Is that what I am seeing this morning? Is there enough time for ripening?

You might be able to get the fruit to ripen inside your house. But outside no way.

Yep, that's a flower and congrats!! But no, no way do you have enough time for it to fruit and ripen outdoors. Bring it in carefully with little to no humidity/light/temperature shock and you'll get some fruit.

So how long does it take to ripen. Bringing indoors is no problem. Do I need a larger pot? It's in the ground now. Thanks for the advice.

Pot depends on size of root ball. I did this once when I lived up north. Use a dolly to roll it into the house . A hot water heater overflow tray works for a pan under the pot. Pot size just big enough to fit the root ball and add some potting mix to fill in gaps. Water in --- OUTSIDE and check for ants. South facing window in a heated room. You will get something.

Very, very few bananas go from flower to ripe fruit in less than 4 months, for anyone with a flower now I highly recommend you get the plant moved carefully or invest in putting a little greenhouse cover over it and keep it warm at night.

we have 4 in bloom now, orinoco (maybe), manzano, praying hands and a dwarf brazilian. They will get protection somehow. Here in zone 9 it might not be too much problem except for the wind. Wish us luck.Good growiing.

Yes I have bananas in New Jersey...a whole bunch of 6. Just ripened this week indoors of course. Never expected it. Took since August 3.

Amantedelenguaje, I had a panel of banana experts...well of course they taste better, I grew them!!

Tony, they are definitely Carolina Kings...all 3 inches of them...all 2 bites.
