Happy New Year, Richard.
I would take the 41F any time over the 28F we got here. Foliage of my plants is all dead.

So, at this point, will the plants die back to the ground or is it leaf damage?

It is just leaf damage, because these are only early morning hours temperatures (about 2 hrs every morning for the last week). Temperature right now outside is 67F.
Got to see the positive part of it: bad for my banana plants and other tropicals, but desirable for all my stone fruits like apricots and peaches.

Yikes! Any visible adverse effects?

I can almost hear the plants yawning: “I’ll be napping - wake me when it’s warmer”.

Not immediately. I'm expecting some edges will brown in the long run.

My napping nanners, along with the rest of the fruit trees & grapevines, got a cozy thick blanket of mulch on Friday.
Now for a week of rain....
