Banana's that Don't store Well dormant!

What Kinds have stored well for you?

Which ones Haven't?

I've searched the forum for a thread that covers this, but can't find one....
I've read comments like "Orinocos store well dormant" and the like with some other bananas... but I've also read that some tend to rot when you try it.

Since this was my first winter trying here's my experience (based on looks, since I haven't planted yet)
Raja Puri, IC, and Orinoco look fine- actually slowly pushing out leaves.
BUT my DC's in the exact same storage conditions rotted and the P-Stem separated from the root section. I'm near Charlotte NC and had them upright in an unheated garage.

That was my experience I'd like everyone else's input.

im in utah..this is my 1st yr overwintering bananas..
but ones that are doing just fine..ive checked them all winter..and they
are solid/firm..and roots looks good..proof will be when i pot them up
ones ive overwintered..un potted/bareroot..
ensete maurelli, ensete glaucum, musa basjoo..
reason i did them bareroot is they were pretty good sized plants
cut down my 2 biggest ensetes were over 7'tall(thats cut down)
there are some fantastic people on here..and with a ton more experience
than me..
hope to see them post for ya too..
good luck !!!

Absolutely bad storing experience with Super Dwarf Cavendish. They won't survive no matter the conditions I made for them. It seems they need to be in warm to hot, partially humid environment with roots in the ground.

I have great luck with orinoco, cant seem to kill those guys. Rowe has never worked for me,inground, bare root,or potted in a cold shed.
Many of my plants I will dig up and pot, this works great for me,they look bad for awhile but recover soon near a sunny window indoors.

My experience with Ensete Maurelli was totally different than Nannerfunboi's. They dried up and rotted down to the corms despite being healthy 8 foot plants last fall.
I did manage to rescue a dwarf Cavendish though. I noticed it was trying to do the same so I began giving it light, heat, and a little water [3 weeks ago]. It's thriving now. Sweet considering I'd already lost several DC's last summer.

The good ones: My Ice Cream, Orinoco, and Zebrina are very healthy and will definitely make it till spring.
I'm in zone 7 [prairie], stored them all bare root with no water or ferts, very low light, and kept them at 50-70*F.

Re: Banana's that Don't store Well dormant!

I have a hard time overwintering DCs, but that's about the only problem child. I've overwintered ensetes twice now, but am not too happy about the way they look on the 2nd season back outside ... they get rather choked up (leaves stay rather tight together) and never grow as well as they did the first season (slower growing, less leaves), so I did not try to get a 3rd season out of them this time.

Best of luck to all of us overwinter-ers!
Annie

So far-
Good:
Orinoco

Zebrina
Basjoo
So-So:
Ensetes
Bad:
DC's
SC's
we can probably assume Regular Cavendish as well
