 The Spanish were the first to bring the fig to the United States (Florida by 1575). The Spanish Franciscan missionaries brought figs into California when they established a mission at San Diego in 1769. The fig they brought is "Mission." And, it is still a significant commercial fig.

Walking out of the store someone stop us and asked if we were carrying a mango and then wished us the best of luck.  This year it flowered and is producing mangos, but I will cut them off since the tree is still just a five foot stick and not ready to fruit.
