Is this banana tree ok?
I transplanted this banana from the forest here in Hawaii. It seems to have this stalk for over two weeks in the same stage. I also accidently broke off a baby from the corn and it seems to have grown back possibly? It just seems like nothing is growing on it? Is it ok?

Re: Is this banana tree ok?
Welcome to bananas.org.
If it had some roots when you transplanted it, it is most likely OK. Patience, it probably just tries to establish its own corm and root system after being separated from its mother plant. Happy growing. |
Re: Is this banana tree ok?
Well the main reason why I transplanted it was because it had fallen sideways from a giant banana and I figured it would die although it was very healthy then. It had a baby attached to it as well which I broke off on accident and now has what the picture shows a tiny twisted stalk. The top of the tree though seems to have frozen in place? I really wanted the top to keep growing as many of my transplanted bananas have, I really liked how tall it was already. Is it just going to die and start over? the corn was very intact except from being cut from the giant mother tree it was attached too. Thanks bananas are beautiful and very cool to watch grow everyday.

Re: Is this banana tree ok?
So how can I save the large plant? W/o it just growing a whole new tree?

Re: Is this banana tree ok?
You will lose the height of the plant but it will grow back to a similar height in 60 days or so. In your zone maybe faster.
Many people including myself will cut the plant shorter to make it more manageable for moving or storage or to cut out a stuck leaf. The plant will soon recover and thrive. .40 days later ![]() |

Yeah, cut it.
