Cool Banana suddenly fruited in Norway! ID

Bet that got everyones' attention!
Not my bananas, but at the local museum.

The museum has a giant greenhouse with huge bananas labeled "musa paradisciaca". This means they don't know what the heck it is. I can see they are about 18 feet tall, including leaves. the pseudostems and leaf bases are purplish red. I have heard the bananas here originally came from india about 50 years ago!
Anyway, they have fruited, and they were kind enough to give me the fruit. It was full of seeds, and the seeds closely resemble sikkimensis seeds in size and shape, except they were more "worty". Definately not the paradisciaca seeds you get from online stores selling seeds, much bigger. Here is my wife holding the fruit-stalk:

The fruit tasted very good, even when green. But the high quantity of seeds made them impossible to eat. Do you suppose the seeds are viable? And can anyone tell me what this species could be?
Here is a closeup of the fruit.
