This does not look like a problem to me but I thought I would ask. In the picture you can see a split in the outer p-stem of my ice cream plant. The plant is 4 months old and the base is about 12" in diameter. The depth of the split is only the thickness of the leaf material say 3/16-1/4".

Do u mean it has a 12" circumference? That would be some 4 month old plant to have a 12' diameter!! Also I generally take this as kind of a good sign when it happens, it means the p-stem is thickening and becoming stronger; plant is growing at a good rate.

I guessed at the 12" diameter. I will measure tomorrow. Probably a little smaller than 12". It is a TC I planted in April.

Just so were on the same page, diameter is the distance across the cross-section of the P-stem, circumference is the distance around the stem.

The diameter is 10"-11" depending on where you measure it. The circumference is around 32"

Here a picture from a couple of weeks ago but I think it might be the apple which was planted at the same times but had to be moved so it is not quite as big as the ice cream.

Pretty amazing to go from a tc to that type of girth in 4 months. Bananas are beasts!

Thanks for the compliments. Now if I can get them through the winter.

This is my first year so, I lack the experience to be sure but I think the secret is push fertilizer and water as hard as you can but it must have the sun to match and well drained soil.
I used a bag of Black Kow on each plant per the video at Florida Hills then a sprinkling of Osmocote when they were planted then went to a 10-2-22 but I added too much and backed off a bit. I added Black Kow when I had some left over from other projects. I just went to an easy mix using 1 pound of 10-10-10 mixed with 5 pounds of 5-0-15 I found at walmart. I use a pound per plant per month and I am waiting to see if that is too much or can they handle more. The plan is next spring to push that to a 1 1/2 pounds per month say in June.

Lots of water then lots more water. Right now I am giving them each plant about 15 gallons every other day unless it rains good.
