Could one of you nanner-savvy folks explain to me the mechanics of banana roots? Are they shallow, deep; is there one long tap root, or many shallow ones? Thanks.

about 95% percent of the roots are within 2 feet deep in the soil and about 15ft out from the plant. there are no tap roots, many larger "explorer" roots extend out from the plants and anchor it into the ground, while smaller "feeder" roots run along underneath the soil and branch out from the explorer roots. each root only lives about 4 months before it is replaced. in general the root system is shallow but expanding.
