Banana production in January

I just noticed that a Mysore in my back yard has flowered and produced some bananas in the last month. I would have thought it would have been way too coold for this.

The time of fruit initiation is months before it actually appears, so once it begins fruiting (could have been around October or earlier), there is no stopping it. Bananas do not work like most other fruit, getting cues from abiotic signs to quickly produce fruit, they generally do it with age and maturity, so if the growing conditions were good enough at the time, and the plant was old enough, then seeing the fruit now is not at all unreasonable.

I'm in Tucson and have a (potted) Mysore also. Mine is just a pup and I won't be looking for some fruit for a while. But it's nice to know that even with the Arizona weather, there is a chance for flowering and fruiting.

You shouldn't have much problem getting fruit in az. I have a couple of Rajapuris that also fruited. I would expect most of the other species that I have to fruit eventually also. The ones that haven't been fruiting have only been in the ground about 6 to 9 months. Except for the dwarf cavendishes which have been in over 2 years and no fruit. I dont care all that much for that variety anyway. They just happend to be the first species that I bought. I generaly prefer taller larger plants 15ft plus.
