Banana Math
By no means am I good at math, but thankfully I had a calculator.
I had the idea to go out and measure the new growth this year (since January) only going by the pstem growth, not the leaves. Pups also count, for instance, I have a dwarf Cavendish that grew 4 feet, and the combination of three pups put on another 4 feet. I came up with 118 feet of growth, in other words, if I cut off the leaves (leaves don’t count) and the trunks where it started growing this spring, I would have a line 118 feet long. Wow. That is 1416 inches: D You can also put down your growth on this thread if you want to. Last edited by Backyard Banana Joe : 09-22-2020 at 01:18 PM. |

Re: Banana Math
Depending on the nana variety, the plant grows a set number of leaves before it blooms. By keeping up the the leaf count, one can then know when the plant is about ready to bloom; and gauge how much (or if) the pstem can be cut off without endangering a bud pushing within the pstem. The leaf count is not precise but is close. ... there are older threads on the forum about the leaf counts.
Since banana plants grow their leaves at evenly spaced distances (until crowning), then plant height relates to number of leaves. Last edited by edwmax : 09-24-2020 at 01:33 PM. |
