Banana IDs

I was given a few bananas this spring. One is now about to flower and I am not sure what it is. I was told it was not a blood banana. Though it looks very similar to one but I can tell it is different. Anyone know a ID on it or should I wait for more pics of the flower?

Also I recently recieved some bananas Named Musa Hookerii is this a true name and is it hardy? Does anyone have pics of a mature hookerii?

Hookeri is a strain of musa sikkimensis, same hardiness as regular strain according to reports. I have no personal knowledge though, Gabe or Big Dog would know. I can't help with the other ID, sorry.

I have that same banana, Brian. If you ever get an ID on it, please let me know, lol!

Musa hookeri is just a synonym for Musa sikkimensis.

I believe I also have this same plant, it appears to be an acuminata subsp. x Rhodochlamys hybrid, similar to Bordelon (which at this point is clearly acuminata subsp. zebrina x ornata or some other Rhodochlamys). Its very difficult to say with any certainty exactly which parents were involved, but I am fairly certain on the general makeup. You should post some flower pictures as it develops.

Are the plants I see growing around the banana with the bud pups or just other plants growing nearby? They look to be pups as close as they are growing but they look nothing like the taller plant. The plant that you have with the flowerbud showing looks a lot like my Musa mannii. It's leaves are small and green like that and the flower is pinkish; though yours looks more reddish-pink. I could be completely wrong, but it really looks similar to my mannii. The plants you have around it (one with red blotches on the leaves and another with reddish undersides to the leaves) are throwing me off though. Does the plant with the flowerbud have reddish undersides to the leaves? My M. mannii shows absolutely no color in the leaves other than green. I'll try to post some pics of my mannii soon so you can compare.

You might look and see if the Wiki has any mannii photos. Be careful if you do an internet search for M. mannii as I have seen several websites and nurseries that have mannii misidentified (at least in my opinion) as M. uranoscopus. To me, their flowers look nothing alike. Mannii is pinkish while uranoscopus is quite red.
