Banana Identification
 

Hello All,

So my plants are back in my grow room for the winter. I have two plants that could possibly be Truly Tiny and I am wondering if they will ever fruit. I posted some pics in my gallery. The plant is 44 inches tall. If the plants won't fruit I want to move them to my garage to give some elbow room to my other plants. Any help would be much appreciated.

Did these plants ever have 'wine stains' on the leaves? I don't seen any on the plants now. If 'NO', then these are probably not Tinys, but environment can effect the stains (???). ... It seems Truely Tinys are hard to fruit, but some members of the forum have done it. ... I think the plants need a 10 to 15 gal pot and the potassium fertilizer needs to be increased to fruit.

I have 6 Tinys myself.

Yes. At when the plants were much younger they had wine stains and I do have some pups that have wine stains but the larger plants do not. Any recommendations on potassium fertilizer or will any do? I do have Banana Fuel from Wellspring Gardens. it's a 15-5-30 fertilizer that I use.

ME ....zone 5/6.....hopeless for fruit..

Maybe a flower in a few years.....LOL..not.

This plant is easily broken up by the winter break.......which adds another 10 months of uncertainty....BUT that only adds years to your plant...HMM


Enjoy your plant.....I love mine, makes a short statement on garden paths.
This plant is a great pupper also.
Feed it triple 19.

Then those should be Tinys of the dwarf Cavendish banana family. ... Banana Fuel is good but tends to be expensive with shipping. I use 10-10-10 for Tomato/garden fertilizer and then add of potassium sulfate to my plants. ... I have 9 bunches of bananas hanging now. But only two bunches are being pushed for mature bananas before freezing with extra potassium. The other bunches don't have any hope of maturing too late in the year (that's another story). But as cincinnana said, use any of the triple fertilizers formulated for vegetable gardens.

You choices for potassium are Muriate of Potassium ( aka: Potassium Chloride) or Potassium Sulfate. Most garden centers will have Muriate of Potassium , some may have Potassium Sulfate. ... I use potassium sulfate because the sulfur helps to acidify the soil which bananas love (about 6 pH).

Your plant will most likely never produce edible fruit in your zone regardless of what fertilizer you choose.....you might get lucky with an August flower ......but...

Actually last year my Ice Cream banana plant produced fruit. I refuse to be defeated.
