Banana Chutes like crazy!! Now what??

Hello,
I planted two baby Dwarf Cavendish trees a few months ago and they are growing very well. So well in fact that I have noticed four chutes comming up near thwe roots. Those chutes now are groing leaves and are growing very rapidly themselves.
At what point could this be damaging to themselves and the larger parent plants? They are very close.
How to I safely remove the baby chutes from the bigger parent trees?
Thanks in advance!

In this Main discussion & just a few topics up is a thread called "How to remove pups for spring" that Jarred did - w/ pics.
It really won't hurt if you leave them on :)

I was just reading that thread but couldnt find the tutorial! I found all the replys, where is the actual tutorial?
It wont hurt them if they all grow together like that? I have them in (large) pots nothe the ground..

If you remove some or all, you might kill a couple. I'd suggest to take it out of pot & remove some soil so you can see the pup corms. Then (what I've done..), take a sharp butcher knife (more control) & cut as close to mamma as you can. I'd check to see if the pup has good roots first if you can. Don't cut them if they are small they won't have good roots.

OK I found the tutorial. I agree about the knife as mine are just babies, the mothers arent even two feet tall yet, the pups are 4"-8" - so you think I should wait?
Will it eventually be bad if I don't separate? If so when?
Thanks

I think they are too small to remove. They won't do any harm to mamma if they stay.
Only time most ppl separate is if they want to sell one or if mamma is ready to bear a flower. Cutting a pup or 2 will give mamma more energy to fruit but even then ppl will leave 1 or 2 on.

I cut some off mine when they were 6 inches or less with no roots, gave them a dip in root hormone and planted them. Not a single one died and momma is still a happy camper.
