Anyone think this is not Orinocco?

This was labeled "Lady Finger". If is a lady's finger, she must have "man hands".

Looks like my Dwf Orinoco bunches. Sharp angled fingers and bunch size. Try eating a yellow one and yule know. Seasonal comment - sorry.

I too am new at this. I have had bananas for a couple of years. I was given bananas by a two friends. I am guessing one is an Orinoco and the other is a dwf Orinoco. You suggest they can be identified by taste?

If I get blooms and fruit this year. What would be the identifying flavor?

Thanks,
George

Slightly sweet, no acidity(not to me anyway), dryish cakey(fluffy) texture, sometimes with a pithy center. Does not taste like store bought Cavendish variety. All my opinion of course.

The fruits have the angular shape but they look a little small - my dwarf orinoco had fruits much the same size as the tall variety - big enough for 2 to share!

I'm totally jealous. Mine are like those in the photos and 6" to 7" long.

If you lived in the tropics Richard, you wouldn't have to be jealous. The Brazilian ("Hawaiian apple") and Bluggoe ("Orinoco") bananas in Hawaii were WAY bigger than anything I've seen grown in CA. Go figure, tropical plants do better in tropical conditions! But at least we don't have BBTV or Sigatoka.

George ---- Just like Mitchel said. I started out with DO back in NJ cause it was recommended as short cycle and very cold tolerant. I personally can't eat it out of hand and consider it strictly a cooking naner.
