Anyone else notice this problem?

I store the following bananas dormant in my basement during the winter:

musa orinoco
ensete maurelii

About March 1st, I bring them up, cut off the dried up tissue and pot them up. Give them a little bit of water and out into the greenhouse they go. The ensete begin growing beautifully from the cut pseudostem (5-6 feet).

However, the orinoco always seem to languish and lack the ability to push up from a 5-6 ft tall pseudostem. Eventually the top dries out or I notice the center leaf go brown. I end up having to cut the banana down to 2 feet or so. Then it begins to grow nicely.

Question is, does anyone else have this problem? It seems like after storing the banana all winter (obviously all the roots die during storage), that the banana no longer has enough energy to start the new year over with a tall pseudostem.

It's definitely not a rot issue or anything because I lifted one out of its pot and it's growing very nice white healthy roots. It just can't push a leaf up all the way!

It's weird. Never have the problem with my ensetes.
