If we made a wooden frame and bought some type of plexiglass for the panels and attached them somehow would that work? Somehow we would have to vent it. My Dad uses this plastic stuff on the roof of his barn for sky lights. Maybe even that stuff would work? Can't remember if its flat.

Two years ago I purchased the Harbor Freight greenhouse that you're speaking about.
It's an okay starter greenhouse and you can purchase automatic vents. However, it did not suit my needs and I sold it.
I decided to make my own with old windows that I had gotten from salvage around the Cincinnati area.
With a little imagination and planning you can put together a pretty cool greenhouse that you've made with your own hands.
You can make any size you want, you just have to find the windows to suit your needs.
My total costs using 4 x 4's, 2 x 6's and screws was under $80 and it was alot of fun. these are pics that were in my gallery.

NOt yet, but planning on building a "Hoop Greenhouse" with metal hoops, 6 mil plastic UV treated. End frames and entry door are made from plywood, which would then accept a ventable window or powered fan. Check out stevesgreenhouses.com. These can be purchases small, to start or large...depending on your budget.

Yes, my dad and I build a greenhouse in the fall of 09 and it has lasted almost 3 years. We build a wood base frame (made out of 2x6 and a 4x4 at every corner dug about 2ft underground for support) and then PVC for the hoops. The greenhouse is a little over 12ft wide and 14ft long.



This fall we are going to start rebuilding the greenhouse out of full wood with a rocket mass heater in it.



The reason we are rebuilding now is because after 3 years the plastic gets rotted by the sun and the PVC will warp a little with the high heat over the summer, and it needed a heater in it. We can’t run power to it so Im putting a wood heater in it. You can look up rocker mass heater for more info. But hers some pics:

The new and the old looks good man! Thanks for pics. I thought about my Dad and I making something,only thing is heat is a issue here in the day even in the middle of the winter since are winters are not that bad. Summer sun would back the plastic. If budget allows HF 6*8 GH is what we want. By the time we spent money on supplies we would be over the cost of the HF one.

I use it to get a head start growing seedlings for my veggie gardens
This year I also put some big pots in there to get some early tomatoes going
Also added some PT shelving here & there for plants & supplies
I had some tomatoes ripe about 5 weeks ahead of last year
The GH is partially dug into the ground to allow the roof to go below the windows
Once you duck thru the door I can stand up without a problem
The roof is old sliding glass doors - they can slide open to allow heat to escape
Roof was free, I had most of the PT wood from other projects
The jalousie windows/doors were $75 off craigslist - I used some that I bought on the pool cabana

I've been planning to build a large cold frame in the same garden but hasn't happened yet
