Cold Ant troubling my new banana tree pups

What is the best way to keep ants out of indoor plants without harming the plant? I'm not into using pesticides,

they do no harm to plant and help keep harmful bugs away..but you can try little dish soap and cooking oil mix with water and spray...a little diatomaceous earth around plant to keep away once they are gone..or a big magnifying glass...by the way what kind of ants are they..small sugar ants or a little bigger stinging type??

I run an insectary at work and we have to deal with the omnipresent threat of ants destroying our fly and moth colonies. We have everything that touches the ground sitting in a dish of soapy water. Depending on the size of your potted plants you may be able to sit them in a dish. There is a chemical that ants can't climb on, but it is rather expensive. If you can get ahold of tangletrap you could sit your houseplants in a tray of tangletrap.

I tried hanging them from some 20lb fishing wire, and it's working so far.
