Default Ahh my nanas!
So this is my first bunch of bananas, my pride and joy.They are goldfinger variety and I live in Rancho Cucamonga in southern ca. Within the last week they have started getting black spots on them? Any suggestions on what this may be?

Yea I believe it might be from the cold, it had dipped below the 50's a few times. I just wanted to see if anyone has seen this personally. Thanks for the responses.

I have spots on my goldfinger bunch also. I believe it is caused by a fungus called Deightoniella torulosa . It seems that bananas that are shorter and shaded suffer most from this problem. The disease is named fruit speckle.

If it is a fungus, removing the flowers from the bunch can be helpful. You can also spray the bunch with copper. Finally, I have had a lot of luck with bagging my bunches in frost cloth.

Copper fungicide spray should be very effective.

I guess it could be caused by cool temperatures, but I only see spots on banana
bunches that are shaded which leads me to believe it is a fungus. This time of year the days are short and the sun declination is lowest so it would seem to be more favorable time for fungus problems.

Not directly, a very small amount of copper will be taken up as plant nutrient, but it will be used by the entire plant. Copper is a protective fungicide, it inhibits growth of fungus and bacteria on the surface, it doesn't have systemic action.
