You can prune off the unwanted suckers, better to do it early and often, and no need to have done in a way they are transplantable. If you're trying to propagate, you can do it more carefully and keep them, but if I was growing these commercially (which I am, actually), and I had these tall plants mixed in, I would not propagate from them. I would remove all the off-types and replace with true-to-type plants.

The only caveat to the above is unless the mutation of the off type is beneficial in some way. Quite a rew of the varieties today are mutations of other varieties.
