African Rhinohorn height in zone 9 ?
For those of you who grow African Rhinohorn in zone 9, how tall does your pseudostem get? What is the fruit production like?
Thanks! |
Re: African Rhinohorn height in zone 9 ?
Mine is not old enough yet. I planted a 2 foot high plant in March of 2007. Grew and pupped with two pseudostems reaching 7 feet in height. One large pseudostem died to the corm during the winter; the other has sent up two new leaves since the middle of February. Two new additional pups as well this spring. Based upon its height description of 17 to 20 feet, I'm not sure if I will see a flower this summer as well.

I don't know of anyone in zone 9 along the Gulf Coast who has fruited one but at least I know that is is marginally hardy here since one of two tall pseudostems made it and our low was 24 on Jan. 3. I'm certain the corn will be hardy here.
