Ae Ae are strong,I even consider them more cold tolerant than some of the more common varieties that are more popular. That being said,The soil has to have the right conditions for the roots and corm to be healthy.

I only have 1 Ae Ae right now because I quit growing bananas for personal reasons but I am slowing getting back into things.Growing Roses in Miami is my new challenge for now lol!

Many things have changed in this forum, many new faces and many old ones gone.Hope to see those old ones come back again...lots of knowledge has been lost with those that have left.

Happy Holidays and a Happy upcoming New Year to all

Good to hear from you again Greenie! Mine eventually died but we got below 30F here. But our summer evenings would regularly get down into the 60s at night and this seemed to almost stop them from growing. When we would have hot spells and nights stayed in the mid-70s, they seemed to be much happier, but those periods were not frequent enough. Can't justify running a heater in the summer for them! LOL

I'm one of the ubiquitous newbies, having just found this site in the past month. I'd like to suggest that someone start an entry for aeae on Wikipedia, since there's next to nothing showing at this time.

Great thread here!
Thanks,

After looking at those pictures again, I have become inspired. I'm thinking of resurrecting "the project" but in a smaller way. I have confirmed that the planting stock from the original project is available, so why not. The yard could use a little beautification!

Great, thanks for the update! We (contractor) are renovating our 1927 Bungalow (after living here for 25 years)...so it has been a little crazy. Ele Ele is doing great and has been shared with so many other members of Bananas.org including the California member that moved to Hawaii...lol.

Sadly our Ae Ae died....strange...it had two pups that shriveled up and died....then the mother plant died....not sure what it was.....new (tree service) mulch added or drought and too much rain. Ae Ae's are tough to grow.

House project has been over whelming. Life has been good so far!

Thanks for the update my friend!!!

Its been a long time since i posted but wanted to share some pictures of today when I cut the Ae Ae bunch.

The Ae Ae strain remains strong! only fertilized a couple of times during its time and very minimal care.

I always plant them in full sun

Hope you enjoy
ps.. if the pictures are to big or something please resize them for me.thanks.
