![]() Blake09, I think you have to have a nursery license or be a retailer to join, and then they'll let you know what the wholesale price is. It looks like they have some wonderful variegated plants.

![]() It would be interesting to see if they have large quantities of Ae Ae available for wholesale distribution (they are based in NY?). To Richard's point the wholesale price of plants is amazingly cheap. No disrespect to any of the board members; but I am skeptical that any nursery has pallets and pallets of Ae Ae and if they did why sell wholesale. I know most wholesalers are adamant that they will not do retail sales; but if the option is to sell 17 plants for $10 each wholesale or one plant retail at $170....

![]() Wow! This is a good thread. I have 9 in the ground and they are not very hard to care for. If you live where you should not be growing bananas then of course the plant can fail on you. I have them in full sun and part shade and my full sun plants are doing better. My summer is very temperate. We don't have air conditioning. It does not get really hot (over 80).
I go to Hawaii every year and they are not $10.00. If they were all of you would have them! I spent two weeks on the big island last year looking and found one near Hilo for $250. Hawaiians are not stupid and selling them for $10.00. I don't think this plant can be compared to the other "Rare" bananas many people have stated. These plants are not mass produced by tissue culture. Many people buy them on e-bay or from other members only to kill them. One day they could be cheaper but all of us want to make money and need to provide for our selves or families. I don't fault a seller trying to get top dollar for a plant. I do fault unscrupulous sellers for lying about what they are selling or charging to much for shipping. I have sold many and I bet if I sold them for next to nothing a few of those people would have flipped them for $150. Hopefully I didn't offend anyone. Andrew

![]() I checked with the Landmark supplier and received this response:

![]() Hi Andrew, I actually grew up in Santa Barbara, and my mom and brother still live there. I go there a few times a year still. You do have a lot of coastal fog there and not a lot of dry heat. I think I am a tad warmer here in Camarillo with less of the overcast weather. I think Santa Barbara does freeze on occasion though in the winter sometimes. Do you protect your bananas with something in the winter? I've seen some burn on the leaves of my AeAe right away, but I have variegated rubber plants, variegated adeniums, and variegated plumerias out in full sun, which do not get burned leaves. I think you're right that they definitely do better in some sun rather than part shade.

![]() In the begining I started with three pups. Two were California grown I got in southern CA and the smaller one was from Hilo Hawaii. The photo was taken on 9-27-2008
![]() The next picture was taken on 06-09-2009 ![]() This is what they looked like on 08-03-2009. They are now over my house and the smallest is now the largest with three pups. It is now a jungle on that side of the house. I have Black Bamboo, Purple Sugar Cane, 8 or more Ice Cream bananas, Bromeliads, variegated Clivia and lots of other tropicals. ![]()

I hope they do! They have grown even more since the August photo. The tallest one has 4 pups. I will take a photo tomorrow. I will also take a photo of the two in my front yard and post them.

![]() I'd love to have an excuse like that to come down, Andrew.
My tall Ae Ae is a little over 20' tall (leaf tip) and is mostly bet up by the wind like in the photo Chris posted. I'm hoping for a mild winter!!! |
