Advice needed on Chinese Banana
 

Been reading for hours but really can't find an answer on what to do with my chinese Banana. It is covered with pups.

Should I take them off or leave them as they are?





If I should take them off can some one tell me how??

I would separate some. In this (Main discussion) forum on top is a thread called "Time to separate pups for spring". Mediahound did a step by step w/ pics on how to.

I once saw a pix in one of austinl01's photo album and he had a very big clump like yours but all flowering at the same time!

I hope austinl01 reads this and tell us more about his super flowering clump. On the other hand, maybe you can grow it in a huge pot and wait for them to flower. If you remove them now at this size, you will waste many of the smaller pups. I will keep it like this if I were you.

yes I saw the pics you are talking about.

His were in the ground and I want to keep them in the pot so I am just worried that they get to crowded

Hey guys, this is my yellow banana! The flowers kept emerging from the side of the pseudostem. It had 7 total flowers all open at once. I was really shocked it would flower like this! Pups of musella are very hard to divide. You basically have to dig up the plant or take it from its pot to see where to cut. I'd leave them until they get larger. They are really an easy plant to grow!

i leave all mine on the mother grows slower but if they all flower at the same time it will look nice

I cut this p-stem several months ago and threw it into one of my beds to decompose. It bloomed!

There is not really any reason to take of the pups unless you want to propagate it. Leaving them on will have no ill effects on the plant.

Austin that is awesome! I never saw anything like that.
I always heard that pups take energy away from the mother but I guess not all true.

You can focus growth on one shoot at a time by removing all the of the suckers, but its not as is leaving them on somehow hurts the plant. A plant with all of the suckers removed can grow very differently from one with them left on, but the point is that it is not necessary for the health of the plant to remove them.
