Okay, here goes... I let a local church borrow all my potted bananas for their VBS last week. The theme was a Hawaiian based theme and they wanted all the tropical look they could get. My nanners have been in their church all last week with considerable lower light conditions and AC. They are suppose to return them tomorrow and I was wondering if I shouldn't put them in a shadier spot out back for a week or so to reacclaimate them to the outside before putting them back out in full sun. What do you folks think, or would they be okay going straight back out where I had them???
Any input would be GREATLY appreciated...

I'd play it safe and transition them back out to full sunlight in stages. Though, maybe it won't take as long as you'd normally have to do it since they were only inside for a week. Welcome back from your vacation by the way!

They probably have the same amount of chloroplasts as when they went to the church . Still, I would put them in the shade for a few days.
I considered offering some of my plants for the 'Outrigger Island' VBS but thought about all those kids pulling leaves and doing what kids do lol. You're a brave man ,Randy.

I have to agree.. You work so hard and your plants are so beautiful why take a chance...They can sunburn pretty easy..

i agree easeam back in to it by the way Randy i looked at your pics you are an amazing gardener your plants look really wonderful and so lush i just felt so inspired nothing looks that green in NV except my naners. your burgamansa (sorry spelling) is beautiful have any of your Bananas fruited?

I appreciate your input as well as the compliments... I have added 3 more types of Brugs to my collection this year thanks to a wonderful member from this board. I look forward to seeing them bloom in the near future... As far as fruiting nanners go, only velutina for me here in 7 a/b, but hopefully that will change this year. Overwintered several inside this past winter and acquired one that I am hoping will at least bloom for me this summer/fall. I hope I am not too optimistic...

LIVE AND LEARN!!! I just got all my potted plants back this evening when I got back from work. They had already dropped them off and left and I understand why!!! When I got home, ALL my potted basjoos that I had for sell were torn and dehydrated beyond anything I had seen... My palms faired a bit better but the soil was still dry as a bone. My dwarf cavendish, I think, is slavagable... All the plants either had confetti all on the top of the soil or down in the leaf bases. Well, for me, that is about it... I don't think I can ever let someone borrow my plants and bring them back a week later. I assumed they would be properly cared for, but you know what they say about assuming!!!!

Water them thoroughly and give them a chance to respond. Nanners are most forgiving of the abuse we as people put them through!

I don't think anyone else knows what a banana plant actually means to people like us...it's not "just a plant", but rather, "the plant" that we choose to grow.

Good luck in their recoveries, Randy. Thank God your expertise is bananas and palms, very forgiving, or else they'd definitely be doomed. I bet you can make them pull through.

I went ahead and placed them in the shade yesterday evening and flooded the pots with water and will leave them there for about a week. I have plenty of other basjoo in the ground, but these were divided up, potted and I have been selling them along with some windmills that I saved from an early demise last fall for 1/2 price, and a few Colocasia Esculentas. This is helping me save from having to fork out all the $ for the new beds I put in this past spring. Main aggravation was that I have printed a flyer and put at my friends pool supply store and have 3 potential customers wanting to come and purchase them tomorrow!!!! Hate to put them off for a week or two, but don't want them seeing them in the condition they are in now either. Sorry to keep rambling on about this, but I had to rant to someone other than my "better half". I simply could not believe they would return something they borrowed in the condition they were in and not even apologize!!!!! I would have accepted it alot better if they would have at least done that!!! Anyway, I will see what I can do and give an update in a week or so on their condition.... Thanks for the support!!!

Live and Learn Randy, sorry about your experience. I'm going to separate off two 'African Red' pups for you this week, I'll send them when I feel they are rooted and growing well.Royal Purple is still in it's pot but I think I better take that one apart too. Are you short of an Ensete Maurelli as I have a spare.

The guys who rent plants out have a contract that says "You damage it/Kill it you buy it" and when your talking large plants like Palms or Musa with a few years work invested in them then it gets expensive for the person who rented the plants. People do not respect free things, I don't know why it's so but it is.
One of the guys who was on UKOais Board worked for a Company in London that rented out plants for Movies , they often came back in bad shape but then the Film Company got a huge bill dropping on them or no refunded deposit.
