I use this light https://www.amazon.com/Bozily-Waterp...dp/B07R4ZQYS6/ for starting pups during low light hours of winter. I keep it on 14 hours daily. Works pretty well.

Have you tried using it on larger plants to see how the growth is, then again on larger plants i assume you wouldn't need to with your climate. |

Re: Advice on LED growlights/ do bananas require full spectrum
Something you might want to consider with the lights if you haven't already is the distance of the lights to the leaves. With my minimal experience growing other plants like tomatoes with lights, having the light far from the plant would make them leggy with long stems which seemed to be confirmed with what I read online. If the lights are already close to the leaves it may be what's resulting in that leaf growth without height growth since additional height is not necessary to reach the light.
Here's an explanation I found from crop scientist Michael Neff: A photoreceptor protein called phytochrome B (PhyB) detects red light, far-red light, and the relative amounts of each. “It’s a great photoreceptor for reading whether you’re under the shade of another or near another plant, because that light that is reflected off your neighbors is enriched in far red,” says Neff. When PhyB senses a greater proportion of far-red light, it signals the plant that it’s in shade. That spurs the plant to grow taller in an effort to get beyond the shade to a sunnier spot. |

I might change my name to "all foliage but no height" Thanks for information on the light distance but i have tried adjusting the light distance but have the same results I'm going with geissene info, i belive I'm going to need 1000w to get good growth on leaf and petiole. Re: Advice on LED growlights/ do bananas require full spectrum
Hi Mike
I have decided to buy T5 fluorescent lamps 4ft x 8 lamps this winter and see how they do on my bananas especially on the AAA varieties, the T5 lamps will give me 460w with 40000 lumens on each lamp. I would like good growth over the winter months. I was very disappointed with the red and blue 100w led spotlights last winter. |

They do have T-5's that are 5000 lumens.

Take photos when your up and running. The br30 spot growlight is good for some applications but not for all... now you can use them for supplemental party lights I use them in terrariums. You will immediately notice a difference in your plants behavior and growth habit with your new setup. As your lighting needs change you can increase your lumens like Iowa said and you can mix bulbs according to your budget. Re: Advice on LED growlights/ do bananas require full spectrum
About 700.00 dollars U.S. and 7months.....for fruit which costs 59 cents a pound a Costco.
And if your plants do fruit.. you won't be putting them in your child lunchbox. I know.....hard to believe... Last edited by cincinnana : 11-08-2020 at 07:21 PM. |

Re: Advice on LED growlights/ do bananas require full spectrum
⁹Hi Mike
Sorry for the late reply. I have been really busy, plus lots of issues with my growlights. I ordered 2x T5 fluorescent growlights, 8 tubes on each growlight ,from the US ,as i couldn't find any in the UK costing me $193 on each growlight It had taken around a month before i received my delivery. I was like a kid in a candy store when the delivery arrived. I unpacked both growlights and plugged them into the main sockets, eager too see them on, as soon as i turned them on, a huge bang on both of the lights with slight smoke and the whole downstairs electricity going off: I called in a electrician, to see what happened. I was able to put the downstairs lights on again but the growlights wouldn't work Only for the electrician to point out US voltage is 120v while UK is 240v that's why there was a huge bang and slight smoke when i plugged the growlights into the main sockets, really mad at myself for not realising that Now i have 2 growlights that a broken. A lesson for anyone that orders any grow lights from abroad, make sure the appliance voltage is compatible with a voltage in your country, or you will need a transformer adaptor. Some good news now lol, since i couldn't use my T5 growlights i decided to use 4 x 100 watt led spotlight blubs and they are working fine. My super dwarf Cavendish is throwing leaves out, like there is no tomorrow the 180 watts i was given her last winter was to low, that's why the petioles we're not growing properly Last edited by mushtaq86 : 12-07-2020 at 03:27 PM. |

Hi Subsonicdrone I have 2 x 100 watt blue and red led spotlights. 1x 100w cool white led spotlight and 1x 100w warm white led spotlight giving me a total of 400 watts. My super dwarf Cavendish is loving it, she is throwing leaves out, like its summer. I just hope my 25 litre pot, will be big enough for her to flower. |

I grow under a 1500W LED Full spectrum. It seems to work well and puts off some heat as well, which keeps the garage warm

Re: Advice on LED growlights/ do bananas require full spectrum
excellent!
do you have any uv blocking sunglasses? some of those units can be bad for youre eyes because they are so strong avoid looking at the light especially in close proximity a lot of the time they do not have reflectors but a couple improvised ones could keep the light focused downwards and not towards a sitting area etc. |

I as well thought only the plug was different and not the ac current. I would be in the same boat in my excitement to plug the lights in. There might be a chance they just shorted at the transformer and are still salvageable Your new setup is similar to one of mine with a grow light (purple bulb) supplemented with a warm white par38. I did a fast check and you have a pretty good selection of hydroponic outlets in uk where you can get your lights for your indoor grow. So you may order them locally or even drive to pick them up. Pricing seems competitive. Plants are looking nice. Here is an example. https://www.hydroponics.co.uk/contact |
