Adopt-A-Wiki
We have such a fine cross section of bananas, Ensete, Musa and Musella being grown by our members, along with the vast experience of our members. There is a ton of information on the threads here that does not make it to the Wiki. It would be great for new and veteran members to have this resource kept current.
We owe it to ourselves and others to improve the Wiki. There are several varieties missing, yet we know about them. For example: Senorita, Thai Black, Violett and many others. There are also some mis-spelled names, duplications and non-conforming profiles that are clutter. Let's get the Wiki into shape. When you notice a word that is incorrectly spelled, edit it. Try to use complete words and not abbreviations. Capitalize where neccessary, and so forth. This is OUR Wiki and should reflect the collective character, expertise and experience of our group. |
Re: Adopt-A-Wiki
For a while I was adding other members' photos to some wiki entries but gave up.
One thing I'd like to see is length of time it takes fruit to mature and also a more accurate assessment of cold hardiness (without protection). I believe many bananas rated as hardy to zone 9 are not really that hardy. |
Re: Adopt-A-Wiki
I've added or updated some info on Pisang Klotek and a few others.

Re: Adopt-A-Wiki
Yes, I should say that there are some of us that do try to maintain the Wiki. Pauly is another one that contributes as well. We need more of our experienced people to take a moment and enter something in the Wiki.
Perhaps in keeping with the name of this thread, each person can volunteer to adopt one variety that is listed or unlisted and edit (Rowe Red, not Row Red), add to, delete a duplicate (there are 11 Ae Ae entries!!!), add photos, etc. If you are going to add one, please, please, please use the template that is already provided. Read Jarred's instructions about how to use the template and naming conventions. This will really help. I like Harvey's idea but do not know how to implement it. I was thinking of creating a Hardiness page where each person can record their particular variety and zone info. Then these stats can be plotted on a graph for each variety. Maybe we can get some results in this fashion. We would have to provide information as towhether the plant was unprotected, protected and so on. I am open to other ideas on this subject. With that said, I will adopt Thai Black. |
