@ wim - they rotate If you click the little link under the smileys that says [more], it will take you to a new window where they all appear, so you can find your favorite or just something new or different. Then you click the smiley you like, and it puts it in the post wherever your cursor was left sitting before you clicked the "more" link. You can do more than one, they will just line up. Then you can cut and paste them wherever you want them in the post using Ctrl+X (copy) and Ctrl+V (paste) shortcuts. more info than you needed? well it'll help someone, believe me

@ Terry - here's the link to the other thread for everyone who needs it Post if getting Musa 'Siam Ruby' from Agri-Starts
I think the link from here is good enough. I don't really see the need for a seperate thread, we could just do a list here and everyone can grab the most recent list and add their name to it. Now it'll get confusing!
I'm not sure if we should have two threads on this topic stuck, we don't want it too cluttered. I can still merge the threads, though...

Like I said, I'm in for at least $20.

And now that I know that Agristarts is doing TC on these, I will definately go in on a partial tray when they are available at the typical TC'd banana rate.

the problem with ag. starts is for the next year, 100% those plants are going to one grower. So not until a year from now will those plants be at a slightly more reasonable price.

I want to be in, but not if it's going to Agristarts. I will offer my business license, my greenhouse and my money, but if they are already committed to one grower what would they do for us? just asking.

they wont do anything with us. They alreday have an exclusive contract with one grower. All the plants they produce go to that one grower. And I am sure the price will be artifically high for the next year. Like I have mentioned before we need somone in house to do some tissue culturing for us. There also might be another tissue culture lab that would be willing to do this, probably would have to google for one.

Hi Jeffreyp. How hard is it to do a tc? Any ideas where I could get more info on it? Do you need expensive lab equipment or some dishes and a sterile enviroment? I have a friend who grows mushrooms and has a lot of equipment. Maybe I could start practicing on some of my pups. Then someday...

There's a bunch of links on how to do this on the net, keith benson has a good one on bananas, but he moved the pages to another site. You could send him a private message to find his links.

Here's one that might be helpful for you.

Wow thanx!

That link is very helpful and gives me a good idea of what I'm getting myself into. I think my friend has all the equipment to do this! I'll try to get a hold of Keith for his links.

Have you ever tried this?

Again thank you!

Hiya Re: 'ace of hearts'

I uploaded a picture of my Musa "Ace of Hearts" to new bananas and to my gallery. There appears to be very little red in the leaves of this immature plant. I would appreciate any of your thoughts on this or more information on this plant. --KW--

The reason it is probably not displaying very much red is because most likely that plant was grown in some kind of greenhouse or filtered light conditions. From a little bit of experience, this plant seems to need full sunlight to really develop the red coloring especially if its a small pup. There's a few different posts on here about this banana but little information is out there.

I believe you are in the wrong thread. The thread for whether you want in or not for the list of recipients of TC'd M. Siam Red is not this one. This is the one: Post if getting Musa 'Siam Ruby' from Agri-Starts

Unfortunately, participation on that list is now closed.

There is another TC place in FL called Oglesby Plants International. I have ordered several flats of "Super Dwarf Banana" from them through their wholesalers. They hold the patent and copyright for that plant. They used to accept special contract for TC of plants. But I looked in their website, and did not find most of the information that they had from before. The links they now have only lead you to 1 page description of that particular topic or department. Nothing in any of the links would indicate if they will do special contract for TC'ing.

Then, also, if they did accept a contract to do it, where would we get the meristem to give them?

Eggo - Thanks for the info. I got this "Ace of Hearts" plant last week. I have it in partial shade at this time. I plan to move it slowly into more sun. Once it adapts to full sun I plan to plant it in the ground in a full sun area. I am having a small problem of where to put it (too many bananas in my yard). I plan to do photo documentation of the growth progress of this plant. I hope to learn as I go with this plant. Thanks for your interest. -KW-

Please check this thread for the progression of this conversation. And Sean, you are already on the list. Posts 23 and 31 (and maybe some others) assured you were in...
