![]() Isn't this called Siam ruby also. Would it be a better deal to buy through ebay? Also the plant is only 12 inches tall which I think is the same size as the ones on ebay, and doesn't the meristem have to be fairly large for successful microprop?
Also don't we have a resident TCer that could do it for us? I'd be interested in contributing for one. Kyle |

![]() ok before anyone else emails me, I wanted to bring this to everyone's attention. I called agristarts today, and they already have tissue cultured this plant. They already have explants at this stage. Sounds good so far? Nope! The kicker is that the indivdual who gave it to agristarts has exclusive rights to the plants they produce for 1 year. So the price is going to be artificially high on these things for a while. The only other option would be for Keith to take a plant, grow it in his greenhouse, then get a pup from it and try getting some explants from the pup. I think this is the best approach and would take alot of pressure off of him if the tissue cultures fizzled out. I am sure keith will give it the best of care, water it often, give it fertilzer and maybe blow it a kiss now and then (just kidding you keith)

![]() This method could take awhile. Although I agree at this point it sounds like the best option. I guess it's up to Keith or someone with a greenhouse. If Keith says yes, I say we buy him a plant! I'm still in for a couple of shares!

![]() Yup I think Keith is our best hope, unless there is someone else on this site who is adept with tissue culturing plants? I think keith has access to a greenhouse at his work and I know he'd give it plenty of care. Once the plant started to produce suckers he could take one and immediatey tissue culture it. If I was any good at tissue culturing banana plants, I'd feel the same way he does in not want the responsibility of chopping up a $500 plant if it the explants all fizzeled out.
I am very passionate about gardening, and I am especially fond of all the banana cultivars I am growing. I really wish the ace of hearts was available to everyone at a reasonable price and I hate to see plants become like commondity items...And even the AEAE banana plants that I occasionally sell, I wish they were common so that everyone could have one at a realistic price. In the case of the ace of hearts, unlike the aeae there's no reason why this once can't be mass produced. |

![]() I guess to let Keith off the hook, we all have to think how many times we have spent $20 on a plant (e-bay, Home Depot) and had it die?? I'm still in for $20 and if he has a freak freeze and looses it, hey, it was a shot.

![]() honestly, if the plant costs 500 dollars, we'll need about 13 people to contribute 40 dollars. I doubt there is 25 people on this site in total willing to contribute for this plant. And we still have not heard from Keith.

![]() Does anyone know yet if it produces edible fruit? If so I'll go $20, otherwise it's just another pretty plant that I don't want.

![]() Help us Obi Keith Kenobi, you're our only hope!!!
![]() I too want to know if it fruits. Although I'm still in even if it doesn't. Unlike Mitchel I NEED another pretty plant to try to get my yard from a desert sticker-patch to somethig that is lush and green (or red in this case)! ___________ D'.

![]() I guess it is pretty impossible to get it to Norway, but just a thought here: The more people that gives money, the more plants is needed. So I'd say, at least $40 each, to get as few as possible to need pups.

![]() Gard,
If you are having a tough time obtaining banana plants in Norway, why not try obtaining some banana seeds? You shouldnt have any problems importing seeds. You can buy them from here: http://www.seedman.com/banana.htm or http://www.rarepalmseeds.com |

![]() How many people do we have? Let's call it 15 people at $40, or there abouts. I'm not sure how many hands are up out there (squinting)...

![]() If I can get some of the pups in Belgium, I'm in for $40.
Who has any experiences with this? I guess customs won't do difficult with TC plants. ![]() MediaHound, am I just discovering more and more smilies, or are still adding more and more ? ![]()

![]() It's zone 10+. I'm in 7b-8, it just means more work for wintering, but look at it! Even if I have to keep it indoors or in the greenhouse for 6 months a year I'm in. After a few pups I'll try overwintering one out in a cage. With the help and guidance I find here I'm willing to try. Actually I bought bananas and bamboo just to see if I could grow them in the desert sand, planted 4-06 and all are still doing good. Not sure where to put bananas for wintering though.
