Wicked video! I love those old films. We have come a long way (especially in animation). I never knew that the corm was also called a "bit". Well, I'm going to go eat a banana and then jump some hurdles.

Great film Jarred, interesting in so many ways, and I love the wobbly hand-held method.

On the south Pacific side of Costa Rica, just above the border with Panama is the town of Golfito. That was the headquarters for the United Fruit Company for many years before some disease killed a lot of the banana production and United shut down production there. I own about 75 acres of beachfront property with 2 houses on it at the entrance to Golfito harbor (for sale VERY VERY cheap if anyone is interested). The old banana dock is still there in town and used by the Coast Guard. They have just started converting the dock area into a huge multi million dollar marina and townhomes (300K to 800K) called Bahia Escondida. All the old houses for the administrative staff of United Fruit are being restored and the old banana locomotive engine is in a park in town. Lots of banana history in that town. Very interesting. Lots of the old banana plantations have been replanted in oil palms. Also some of the best fishing in the world.

Here are some pics from the main house.

The first thing I wanted was more about the 'G'. I googled it and found 15,400,000 sites for vitamin G. It seems to be important in the thirties. In the 40s The banana boats would deliver their cargo here in Miami. Before transporting them to the south east they would discard the ripe fruit. My uncle knew when the boat was in the port and went down to pick up a car load of ripe bananas(there were 5 households of my family in Coral Gables). The pile of ripe fruit was free for the taking. We ate a lot of bananas until some do gooder complained and the banana boats had to trash the ripe fruit. By that time we all grew bananas and had more then enough. Back then the banana cost 3 to 4 cents a pound.

The United Fruit Company used to be big here in the Dominican Republic. When they pulled out, Puerto Plata and the whole area went into a decline for many years.

Hi Mitchel,

Yep it still is available although I have been in discussions with a guy from Columbia for a couple of months. He and a partner are VERY interested but would be tied up in other issues until the middle of March. WELL, that's today. HA HA

So I'm still open to talking to anyone about it.

Go ahead and PM or email me some details and asking price. I have a friend who is involved with some investors looking for properties in South America.
