6 foot AeAe's for $49.99!!!!!!
Last week I stopped by Green Thumb Nursery and found these
They were potted in 5 gallon pots and marked $49.99 . My friend is standing next to the find of the century. The one I bought already had a pup! We didn't have room for anymore plants so we bought two. They had a third that I wished I could fit. I went back this morning with Harvey's name on the last one. Unfortunately they were out. (Sorry Harvey). I screwed up! I also purchased a Carica Papaya and a Musa High color mini. I have three other AeAe's that are growing like weeds. The plants are almost as tall as the house. The largest has 4 pups. The new AeAe is planted in front of the house next to a Siam Ruby.

You stole those bananas. Lucky you. And you live where you can plant them in the ground and leave them. I am not that lucky. I have to try to keep mine alive for the winter inside.

Re: 6 foot AeAe's for $49.99!!!!!!
ROFLMAO
I found one at Green Thumb on Friday stashed away amongst the Hydrangeas and just about soiled myself when I saw the sale price attached to some green and white leaves. I guess I got the third one you'd left behind The crazy thing is that these used to be priced at $149.99. I'd asked one of the sales persons if they thought they'd ever go on sale since all the other bananas were $32.99, very cheap by comparison... They said something about talk to Carl yada yada yada. Needless to say I bought it |

I have come across a deal like that on a very rare occasion. I always wonder why it happens? Clerical error?

Re: 6 foot AeAe's for $49.99!!!!!!
I had never been to that nursery before. I will definitely stop by Every Time I drive down south. Maybe it was a mistake or as Pauly said, maybe that was the price they wanted??? Either way I now have one more.

Re: 6 foot AeAe's for $49.99!!!!!!
Thanks for checking yesterday, Andrew, and congrats to you and to you as well, Andy. That would have been a back-up plant for me as I'm contemplating my smaller 4' Ae Ae in the ground but I may just keep that in a pot and move it into my greenhouse for the winter while my big monster deals with the winter outdoors.
I've heard that Ae Ae sold in Hawaii for as low as $10 before and from another source that they get snatched up for $50, but finding them that cheap in areas where they are scarce is a real find. Many nurseries are hurting badly due to the slow economy and I suspect they are discounting high-priced items so they don't need to move them up into larger pots and carry them in inventory even longer. Just my guess. Cheers, Harvey |

Re: 6 foot AeAe's for $49.99!!!!!!
I haven't planted mine yet. I've been eyeing an area that gets some shade from an apple tree as I seem to remember that they burn in full sun... For now I repotted it in a larger pot until I figure out exactly where to put it and we're enjoying it on the back patio where it gets dappled sun in the morning and maye 2-3 hours of full sun in the afternoon.
