55 Degrees F, ground or air?
The temps are getting into the upper 40s for a low this weekend here. I understand that at 53-55 degrees, growth stops until there is warm temps for a long period of time. What signals the growth to stop; the temp of the soil, or the temp of the air?
I'm hoping the soil so that I can cover the ground around the plant. |

Re: 55 Degrees F, ground or air?
It appears to be the ground temp that needs to be above 55 degrees because it got into the low 50's last weekend and their still growing pretty fast. Low 40's predicted in mid week. We'll see how they do. This could be the end of the growing season for me. :(

Re: 55 Degrees F, ground or air?
Growth rate and even blooming is affected by ground temperature. The growth rate of citruses for example are affected by temperature in the root zone. Most bananas need greater than 60 deg F around their corms in order to bloom.
