2 in 1 - Twins ?

Found this guy while visiting a wild patch of bananas

This is definitiy not common unless you can convince me otherwise.

Have you seen something like this before?

Could it be the results of leaf Choking?

In the meantime, I'll try my best to track it's progress.

I have seen it. Basically a sucker came up through the other pseudostem. It is likely that the growing point of one pseudostem is dead

Could be that a leaf in the original plant choked and did not emerge, and the following leaves came out beside it, forming what looks like a new stem. I would only expect one bunch of bananas in the end.

I would love to see how this plant matures. Please continue to post progress if possible. Thanks. I once had a second flower come up from a p-stem I had already harvested from and cut in half. It was bizarre. Sadly, it did not mature and died after only opening a few hands.

Great find. If it was a taro plant we could put it in the mana family (in most of them the growth point splits into 2, vs normal producing buds / keiki at the leaf nodes). With taro you can slpit the plant / corm in half longways and see how it developed. With banana, maybe trickier, but you might be able to see the source of the new shoot. And of course the pups are worth watching - if you can get back to this wild patch again - on the wild chance it is a genetic mutation that carries forward.

That's the damndest thing, I have seen. I have a Cavendish in a huge pot right now. When it was very young, it sent up a sucker and both are about the same size right now at least a full year. Very well fertilized and watered. With no apparent cause for this to happen one of the banana trees also did the same thing, it sent up 2 or 3 gnarled leaves and then the began to look normal and continue to grow and now I also have the same situation as you have. There are 2 seperate plants growing out of the one trunk. With no sight of seperating. They are tightly wrapped by the trunk. It is hard for me to get pictures of it because it is a Cavendish and is tightly growing with short petioles.
