$10 vs $30 Banana Plant
I thought this might be interesting. Please note neither of these plants were from any of the members selling plants.
I bought an economical ice Cream banana TC plant on line in April that with the low cost shipping and the initial lower cost of the plant it worked out to a total price of around $10 Here is the 10 buck banana plant today about 2 months after planting. I month later I bought a Goldfinger from a reputable on line dealer and paid 20 bucks for the plant plus shipping so total it was $30 Here is the the 30 buck plant that was planted one month after the cheaper plant or about one month ago. The more expensive plant is I would say two leafs behind the cheaper plant planted a month earlier.

Re: $10 vs $30 Banana Plant
OK It looks like your having a leaf race !
Ice cream gets to be 12 to 14 feet Gold fingers get to be 9 to 10 feet So you might be right on par.. Ya need to handicap the Gold Finger Plants look great by the way

Re: $10 vs $30 Banana Plant
Does your ice cream have pink on the edges of the leaves and the midrib? Is this a true ice cream?

Re: $10 vs $30 Banana Plant
Yes, same fertilizer. The mulch is cypress and new to the banana plants today.
Trebor, I really thought the more expensive plant would catch the cheaper plant since it was bigger to start with than the cheaper TC that planted first. Your right though a handicap would be in order. Say one leaf? Thanks for the compliment. Mm4birds, I wish I could say it is a true Ice Cream but only time will answer that question. Yes it does have pink around the leaf and midrib but so does my apple banana plant. The two could be twins. Hopefully next year I can answer that question.

Re: $10 vs $30 Banana Plant
It's a bit unfair to make a comparison with only two plants and of different varieties. You really need more plants in the study and of the same variety. Still, worth mentioning. Thanks for your observations! --Rob
