Has anyone have pictures of there matured banana's growing in smart pot? I'm considering what best pot to use for bringing the nanas in during winter and avoiding root rot.

Anyone has good or bad experience with 15gal to 30gal smart pots?

What is the best pot to use if planning on putting the banana's in ground with pots? I'm assuming smart pots would not be good because with no air, the roots would penetrate through the fabric. Right?


Any pointers greatly appreciated; thanks.

I have mine growing in 45-gallon, wheeled trash cans. I painted the trash cans gold and copper, so they look nicer, and grow plants down the side to cover up the "Rubbermaid" logos. I also sawed holes in the bottom. Since they're wheeled, I can move them inside, though they are tall now, so just barely. It's a great solution, and only runs you about thirty dollars each.

I have been looking at the wheeled trash can for moving convenience too but not sure how it would look since its very tall, unless cutting it in one side in half; you got a picture? I just bought a bucket cart with wheels from lowes and I just have to put holes in it, but they are only 15 gallons. Good for smaller ones, but eventually, I will want something maybe at least 25 gallons or up. I looked at the garden cart but they run like $60 or over, but easy to bring in. Still thinking about it, but quite pricey and I've reached my spending allowance after this week. But with this garden addiction I have, I can't seem to stop learning and watching them grow; plus I enjoy having our own grown vegetables. I will post my tropical fruit trees in pots and gardens as soon as I can to share ideas. I still like the idea of the smart pots due to its rooting solutions, but they quite pricey and there's no store I know that carry more than 10 gal in my area; ya I know online, but I was trying to avoid shipping cost to its already high price item. I may use the smart pots only for the very sensitive plants; My papaya's and soon to be my variegated banana(waiting for shipping) will be on the smart pots for now until its roots are situated. Varig8 told me a good idea of putting the pots in ground to avoid root rots, that is a very good idea too. I only have 3.5 months of summer now so I must be prepared. My biggest worry in the winter is controling the bugs(soap and oil spray 4 aphids) and my plants roots to be established(avoiding root rots).
