my musa basjoo produced seeds
 

my basjoos had mature fruit last fall and today i collected some seeds. i know there isnt a lot of information/experience with basjoo seed. ive heard they dont germinate well. any thoughts on germination methods to try? any experiences?

Best to plant them as fresh as possible for better germination!

Congrats with the seed.....up here no seeds or flowers .....season is too short.
The mats here are giant.........I know of three that are large, Still no flowers .......but they look cool.

with over 84" of rainfall last year, my basjoos reached 24 ft tall... as tall as i have ever seen them. the clump is about 20 years old.

Hayes, I don't think they will be any good if they stayed outside through the winter. I think the cold weather probably killed the embryos, especially since they weren't dried out. Never hurts to try though I suppose.

I guess for good seed production in M. basjoo you will need to M. basjoo clones. When both flower you do crosspolination by hand and then you should get viable seeds. Offcourse you will need a long warm growingseason. I had ones M. basjoo also under glass here in The Netherlands and it flowered there easely. It was always warm there the whole year. But never setting any seeds. Other Musa like Musa velutina however seeds itself arround there. It seems that some Musa are selffertil while others are not.
