Friends,

I don't find this specie on the website from Agri-Starts.

Do they have different species that are not listed? Thanks for helping me out ! :03:

Go here and scroll down to Musa: http://www.agristarts.com/availhtml.htm

We suspect this is a cultivar and not the species banana.

20-10-20 works well too or 20-20-20 or if it's hot outside 24-8-16 works good. Also Monty's Joy juice 8-16-8 is working well on a mini I brought into the kitchen to test, and on hanging baskets and a big huge monstera in the bedroom. It's giving a 'rainforest cafe' look to the room since it's about 6 feet across.

I had planted three Musa "macKlayi" out on my farm, then the freezes hit in January. Two of three survived.

If Gabe is right and these are actually Musa Jackyi, I will be even happier!

The red color of the pseudostem in the initial photographs may be a result of the change from plant hormones and stimulants to a more natural environment.

Thanks Gabe for the information you provided! :2239:

Re: Musa macklayi

mine aren't showing any reddish color on the stems or anywhere. They have more of a sort of bluish tone with kind of waxy look whitish to the stems and petioles. Whatever they are, they seem to be growing well and healthy, anyway.

Good afternoon Sandy,

This is the way those same plants look today. No red color in the pseudostem!

Several people asked for updates on how this cultivar does, here it is.

The latest update of Musa Macklayi (that is what is was sold to me as). This is my best performing mat (in terms of growth). I purchased this cultivar just to find out what it really is.

This is an update on my largest Macklayi, it has done well through the main part of the cold winter season so far. It is on the far right.

Hopefully by July we will know what the fruit looks like.

Re: Musa macklayi

The Agrimacklayi began to shoot in winter. It is a Pacific cultivar similar to Hua moa and Vundi, but different from both. It seems to be more cold resistant than Hua Moa.

I'll get some better pictures next week.
