Musa itinerans var. kavalanensis

Hi Guys,
I've collected Musa itinerans var. kavalanensis again. Apologies for the poor results from the last time I introduced this species! Those seeds were the product of a single bunch, and occasionally a batch can produce poor results. This time I've collected seeds from 6 bunches collected at different sites on the mountain, so I think the germination percentage will be much higher this time. The old thread about this species is here. There's a much more detailed page of info on the Trebrown blog.

The links to buy Musa itinerans var. kavalanensis seeds in 13 different languages: English, 简体中文, 中國傳統, Español, Português, русский, 日本人, Français, Bahasa Indonesia, Deutsch, Türk Dili, Italiano, Srpsko-hrvatski.

I've also collected fresh Musa itinerans var. formosana seeds. You can buy these from those same links above. I've collected these from two totally different locations, eastern side of mountains at 800m, and western side at 1800m. So if you leave a note in the comments when ordering to tell us which, or both, you want.

Before I go I must tell you about an unusual banana I found in the far south of Taiwan. I was looking to collect Musa balbisiana but couldn't find any with fruit. However, I found a small 8 ft tall single stem at the roadside whilst driving, which had a M. balbisiana-like inflorescence, and huge fruit for M. balbisiana, (see picture). I didn't know if this was someone's cultivated plant so only pinched a single fruit. Didn't think to photograph the plant, and didn't get chance to examine the fruit until a week later when I got back from Lanyu Island. This fruit tasted very sweet, although slightly over-ripe when I got to it. Inside were only 19 seeds. I'm going to plant 1 or 2 myself, but I'll give away the rest (2 each) to anyone who asks for them while ordering others.

Best wishes,
Phil

Phil,
Do you have any of the balbisiana-like seeds left? If I order some seeds could you include them?

Ethan
