Here's some pics of Musa cheesmani grown from seed. It was the fastest growing musa from seed for me until I tried M.sikkimensis Daj Giant. Anyway here's it growing in filtered sun in hot, dry California. The pseudostem is nearly black when grown in shade, but only get's that dark when it's past the seedling stage.

The major plus' for Musa cheesmani is that it can grow huge in a very small pot, compared to others that need to be potted up or get stunted.

Looks good! Is that about a 4' P-stem? The one that I got from you (thank you kindly) is about 3 1/2' tall, in full, blazing, California sun all summer and the P-stem is dark burgundy colored. It was a little slow to start, but the last 2 months it kicked into high gear. I am glad to see yours has a narrow P-stem as I was worried mine wasn't being cared for properly.

Next year, I am going to move it to a spot by my pond, where I can view it better from my patio. I'm taking out a fruitless Mulberry and putting 5 bananas in it's spot including Saba and Brazilian. I think Cheesmanii will fit in with them nicely and provide some contrast with it's stem and midribs. I'll round out the bed with a Heliconia, dwarf Strelitzia, and dwarf Canna and a few smaller tropical lookers and ground covers.

Right on, that sounds like it will be a nice layout with all that folage. Maybe the stem will be a little darker when it's growing with all the other ones.
Nice to hear that yours is doing good. I'm starting over with a couple cheesmani seedlings since I left that big one in California(starting to wish I had taken a few more with though).
