Musa Ae Ae Question

I ahve read in several places that musa Ae Ae produce pups slower and when they do it can be that only 1 in 4 pups might be varigated, if this is true and the other 3 are just green are they known as a different species as they are none varigated or are they still Ae Ae, i am intersted as i have just aquired on and i was wondering what the green pups are called as Musa Ae Ae ony seems to refer to varigated ones. Do the green one still carry the varigated gene though and is it possable for a none varigated pup to produce a varigated pup it's self. Thanks and my apolagies if this question is a bit stupid but i was curious and i thought someone out there might now. Thanks again

Re: Musa Ae Ae Question

Yes, they would still be an Ae-Ae regardless of their color. We used to grow these where I worked several years ago and almost all of the pups were variegated. Occasionally we would get one that was all white. These would not make it, of course, if separated from the main plant, as they have no chlorophyll of their own. I can't remember ever seeing one that was totally green. I believe that the green one's would still retain the genetic coding for variegation and could one day revert back to a variegated form. Hope this answered you question.
