Here is an old photo I found of a variegated Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' we were growing. I found this in summer 2003 mixed in with some regular 'Maurelii' at Home Depot. Unfortuneately it died in Aug. 2003 as Ensete ventricosum usually does not make it through our summers here. The foliage was spectacular.

Ensete ventricosum does not long our hot humid nights and days. From late April until Oct. it is low to mid 90s in the day and about 75 at night. They grow well fall through spring but buy July/Aug. they are severly declining or dead. E. glaucum grows fine in the summer. E. superbum is a little better than E. ventricosum but languishes in the summer. We have a 'Maurelii that survived this summer. It is about 8-9ft tall and looking better since it has cooled. Hopefully it will flower before summer sets in.
