![]() Hi,
anyone do know the brazilian banana cultivar Musa 'Maçã', it's an AAB type, similar to 'Dwarf Brazilian'. The daughter of one Brazilian banana farmer told me on Friday that it's similar to 'Dwarf Brazilian' Is even 'Maçã' another name for 'Dwarf Brazilian'. I'm some confused. Does anyone here is even growing 'Maçã' and will tell me the descriptation, e. g. growth, height, size, fruits and fruit quality, eventually even the hardiness? I self will take some pups ![]() Best wishes Basjoofriend |

![]() In Norway we have a saying; "A dear child has many names"
I have never heard of this cultivar though. If it tastes like brazilian, it probably is something in that neighborhood. On the other hand, there are many types of cultivars, so theoretically it could be anything. Brazilian is known to be quite fast growing, and tolerant of cool temperatures. I have heard no reports of it beeing frost-hardy, but I guess there is no other way to find out. So fill up your suitcase and give a report! Erlend BTW: I have allways wondered about this: Is "Apple (Manzano)" and "Brazilian" the same cultivar?

![]() It's an apple banana, yes. It might be Dwarf Brazilian or Manzano. It is but suspectible by Panama disease. So that I recommend the Brazilian banana farmer to try FHIA-01 and FHIA-03, these are resistant against Panama Disease, Black Sigatoka and Yellow Sigatoka! I spoke with his daughter who is currently living and studing in Hamburg/Germany about this last Friday and she will tell her dad.
His daughter speaks German very well, he self don't speak and understand German and English, only Portugese. So that I learn Portugese with her, because he wants to talk with me. Now I speak a bit Portugese, and I am busy in learning. I showed his daughter the book "Bananas You Can Grow" and the pictures of "Dwarf Brazilian", and she said that it might be similar to "Dwarf Brazilian" and recognized the bananas which her dad is growing in Lucianópolis in Brazil. Best wishes Basjoofriend |

![]() It is true Brazil as a region may have cases of Panama-disease. Are you sure you want to import plants to Europe if there is a risk of Panama-disease? Or will Panama-disease not survive the winters of Germany?

![]() If the banana plantation infected, then I will not take infected pups to Germany, otherwise my basjoos and other bananas in my greenhouse will be infected too and die.
I do only take healthy banana pups to Germany, only from one completely healthy plantation. One banana nursery man also wants this variety from Brazil, but he warned me that it's possible that the pups might be infected and will kill his nursery and ruin him. ![]() Best regards Basjoofriend |
