I have just bought one of the above from Thailand and I have had a quick look for some info on it and I have drawn a blank.
Anyone out there growing it ? Mine is sat on a heatmat at the moment trying to grow some new roots and its first leaf. Here's what it will look like when its growing.

Awesome plant, Mark! I was considering getting a 'Sweet Cream' or 'Fresh Cream' from a member of this site who's in Japan, but it is a bit too expensive to get all the necessary paperwork to import one plant, so I've just about decided against it. Good luck with yours!

Thanks Guys. It only took 4 days from Thailand to the UK. Had all the paperwork too and it wasn't even checked.
The roots were all trimmed off so were all the leaves. I was advised by the seller to cut off 10% off the top to get the leaves to come through quicker. It is a nice chunky plant at nearly 2ft long. I just can't find anything about them. I looked on encanto farm but nothing on there. There must be one of you guys who are growing it ![]()

Nice plant. You most likely will not find any info on it, its probably just a variegated regular M. balbisiana and named 'Ta Nee' by whoever discovered/created it.

Mark,
Check out the Ornamental Bananas gallery and look for a plant named 'Giant Tanna' posted by varig8. It looks a lot like your banana and the names are close. Varig8 has some awesome stuff; check out his photos if you ever get a chance. You've probably already seen them though, since you seem to be a variegation enthusiast as well. |

Thanks Brent.
I did have a look and they do look the same.He has a lot of varigated plants. I have bought a couple of plants from him and the unamed Ornata from him has got white flecks in it where as his one doesnt. I do have this strange love of variegated bananas as you say. I also noticed that there seems to be a strong conection between Ae ae and Florida with people saying they are one and the same. If so it will save me buying a Florida........although it wouldn't hurt to have a spare. Do you have specialists over your side of the water that sell Varigated bananas ?

Mark,
Hey, glad you found the picture I told you about. They may not be the same, but I sure thought they looked similar and with the name being similar too, I thought you'd like to check it out. As for specialists selling variegated bananas here, I don't really know of any other than varig8. I tried to send him an e-mail (to his nursery) yesterday but it bounced back as undeliverable because it was his old e-mail. I forgot, I got a notice sometime back that he had a new e-mail address, so I need to send him another message. Keep us updated on how your new aquisition does this year! |

Well I said I would keep you up dated on the TaNee.
Bad news I am afraid its on the way out ![]() I have had it on the heat mat for a little over a month and its gone down hill quite rapidly. I was cutting it back nearly every day due to the stem rotting back. I decided to take it out of the pot and see what was happening and I found one single root. Here is a picture of it cleaned up after I took it out of the pot.

Good Luck Mark...I had my Saba stick out one root, checked on it and accidentally broke it...THAT was the end for it, who knows what would have happened WITH the root, so good luck my friend.

That's my favorite varigeted banana I've seen yet. The corm doesn't look too bad in that last pic, hope you get it to grow back again.
Taylor- That's a really funny movie thing with the orange getting caught peeled, very clever. Last edited by Tropicallvr : 02-17-2008 at 07:54 PM. |

Scrape away any soft part of the corm and apply a fungicide (I use growell floral and rose dust-insecticide,fungicide miticide), then let it sit for a few days in a dry location. Only then, try potting it up again in sterile potting medium (cook in oven at 250 degrees for 30 minutes). Wet once, cover with plastic bag and place in a warm area. then pray P.S.-good luck
