Winterizing Basjoos and pups

Guys, I am getting ready to pull out my Basjoos and get them ready for winterizing. They have grown to about 5 feet this season after being planted in June from cuttings so I think they did pretty good. However, what I am concerned is the pupps. They put out a lot, one I believe has 6 littles ones now and the other 5. How should I handle these when I pull them out from the ground? I had another thread where you guys helped me decide to pot them up and store in basement with no lights but I am not sure what I should do with the pupps. Should I leave them attached? if so I might need some big pots. Can I pull them off and store in the same way? or perhaps they need to be kept in the house with some light and warmth? Will they survive in dormant state like the bigger plants?

Hi Rafael

Last year, I had good luck with keeping a 1' tall basjoo pup 'dormant' over the winter. I basically cut it away from the mother a week before my 'big frost'. I kept it about ~50 degrees in my attic. The plant got some sunlight near the window and I watered it lightly every 2 weeks or so.

I wasn't sure if it would make it since the pup didn't really have time to create it's own roots before it got cold. The pup lost some leaves but managed a full recovery in spring. It's now over 6' tall this season!

I assume they will survive dormant, I'd suggest leaving a few attached and remove the ones bigger than ~2 feet tall. Just my 2 cents.

I can keep them in the basement but they will get no light at all, only when I come down there once in a while and turn on the lights for few minutes at a time. I have no intentions of running up the electric to keep these alive. I am not sure what temp the basement is in the winter but I imagine around 50-55 is right. I also cannot bring them into the house as I have no room and I already brought in two big majestic palms and plan to overwinter some small Alocasias and Colocasias in the house.
