Default wHATS GOING ON WITH MY SICK BASJOO???

My basjoo has been getting this weired fluffy white stuff on it and also has had many soft spots that get brown and basically have to be cut out. Well now I pretty much cut it down to 8 inches or so ( it was 4 ft) but the white fluffy stuff is appearing anywhere I cut the plant and it just dont look healthy. My other basjoo bought at the same time looks great and is fine at about 5 ft tall. What could the fluff be and is it harmful to my plant, it sure does not look like any mites nor does it look living. Sorry but this photo is huge but shows all the detail.

I have had plumeria that have had this crystalized substance on them, it was mites. I would try something mild like soapy water, to start out with. I like to treat my plants by the mildest means at first. If this does not help I would look into a pure neem oil mixed kind of strong. Keep in touch

Thanks guys I am trying something tonight, so what I did is to re-pot my basjoo and then bought a store product that is organic and gental but supposed to be effective. Its made from fish oil and various items so I will let you know if it works. I hope it does I was getting ready here in michigan to put my two basjoo's outside soon and I may have to buy another if this doesnt work. That doesnt bother me but I have done well with these all winter inside and was really looking forward to seeing them grow outside.

It's a mold or fungus. It gets in the greenhouse sometimes, usually on stubby ends of cut off things or brugmansia leaves that have fallen off and are deteriorating. I haven't really seen that it hurts anything unless your growing conditions are also bad, like really cool and overly damp, poor air circulation in the area. Then it will start attacking semi-healthy leaves. I'd say if it really bothers you a little spray of something like alcohol (rubbing, not everclear, lol) would probably stop it. Or if the plant overall is healthy, maybe the everclear for you would be better...lol...

As usual you guys were correct, I did get the fungus to stop with a little rubbing alcohol. I am still afraid that I will lose the plant possibly due to to much water and or improper placement in our house. I had my plants in a south facing window and they did well but while painting the whole house inside we had to move them and now they both seam sick but the one pictured is really bad compared to the other. There was even a rotted type spot on the top of the root ball and it just doesnt look good. Its getting nice here and I am going to place it outdoors in a sheltered area to see if actual sunlight my help. SANDY if you have more of these I may have to buy a few from you, let me know!!
