thai black banana

I am so bad. I bought a thai black banana. Is it black balbisiana? That says cold hardy zone 7 and possibly zone 6. Well I am not leaving it outside all winter until I get pups. Then I will try a baby mulched like my musa basjoo. I have bought a small one before and it died this one is 4ft maybe I will have better luck.

Hi, I have black thai. It's cold hardy to about 30 degrees. Mine got huge in the ground from about May to end of Oct. I then dug it out and overwintered it in my garage. I was so impressed with it's height that I bought two more to plant out this year. I think mine got about 12ft. in about the 6 months it was in the ground.
Good Luck ,
Raggedy (Lynda) :)

I also bought one on ebay - the site said hardy to zone 6, anyone ever tried this do you need to protect like basjoo? The plant has doubled in size the last few weeks indoors in pot.

Where on ebay did you all get your Thai Blacks? I got a thai black off ebay last year and I have been disappointed with its growth and color. All my other bananas (even my dwarf cavendish) grow faster!

Musa Thai Black Banana plant fruit tree cold zones 6-10 | eBay

I bought 5 different plants from them and they are all doing great!

I think the price went up a couple bucks since I bought one - but maybe because they are bigger now????

Good luck
Paul

Thanks so much! I'm definitely going to be buying some if I can manage to make a bit of extra room in the ground!

Hey Greg, I got my Thai Blk from Fl*%#%*. You can guess. Can't seem to bring myself to say the name after reading those negative posts. Love this site. Don't want to say
the F word. All I will say is $6.99 ebay. Buy it now. Mine are getting bigger by the day.
Same with Ensete Maurelli. Guess they will go out in a few weeks.
