Strange leaf

Re: Strange leaf
Hello friend,
I had a very similar experience with Raja Puri, but not with Basjoo. And it could not overwinter the last and died down. I am firmly convinced that its death was somehow related with this strange phenomenon, although the reason for which has not yet been found. |
Re: Strange leaf
give it a little nudge, maybe it's stuck and can't unroll

Re: Strange leaf
I had that happen to several of my plants last year. I think it has to do with growth spurts and the new leaf growing faster then the emerging leaf. After they unfurl the whole leaf will have a curved shape.

Re: Strange leaf
It seems to me like alternating wet and dry periods will do that to a banana too. It's like it grows a large spiral during a wet time, then it turns off dry and it gets stuck. When it starts growing the next leaf, it's still stuck inside the first one. When you see one doing that, you can carefully unroll it part way and it'll go from there.

Re: Strange leaf
Looks like it was a growth spurt / over fertilized.
See this thread: http://www.bananas.org/showthread.ph...ght=fertilizer |
Re: Strange leaf
Yes, I get it most commonly with SDC and it seems to be linked with plentiful water following a period during which the plant has been too dry.
My plants get their leaves stuck like this, but rarely die following it. |
Re: Strange leaf
Yes, my Basjoo is still very healthy and the next leaves were normal
again. I have to say because it is in a large container the too wet and than too dry explanation could be true, as there is a lot of perlite in the container the soil is very quickly dry. I don't think I have over-fertilized because there is only a bit osmocete and a bit dry cow-manure in the top-soil. Ron |
